Welcome to my home page at CSU CIS on grail in Cleveland, Ohio although for the past several years I have been visiting Georgetown University. I am Michael Somos (not Prof. Somos or Dr. Somos) and I am interested in information in general, but particularly mathematics and computers, especially software like Linux, PARI/GP, Perl and Forth. A partial index of my webspace is available.
To find information on the web I highly recommend the Google search engine. To find information on Internet hosts I primarily use the Network Solutions Whois lookup. Search the Yahoo index or the Lycos database. Try John December's Internet Web Text. Look at the World-Wide Web FAQ by Tom Boutell. For simple HTML examples see my test file. I use the web browser Lynx and sometimes Firefox.
You think that there is something funny about the job market? Look at Career Guide for Engineers and Computer Scientists or Women in Science by Philip Greenspun. Also read Disciplined Minds by Jeff Schmidt. Read my copy of an open letter by Alan Hale.
My recent mathematical work is in the Elliptic Realm such as my essay A Multisection of q-series and takes much inspiration from Srinivasa Ramanujan. In the past I looked at the Four Color Theorem. Early on I was interested in knot theory and the busy beaver Turing Machine contest. I came up with Somos Polynomials and have done some work with rational triangles and number walls.
I have Internet Service Provider information and also Cleveland Area Server information. If you have an account on "grail", may I suggest that you use the helpme command which I wrote to help me remember useful UNIX commands. Some late breaking news about Fermat's Last Theorem. (just for fun!)
Finally, I am not related to somos.com , somos.org , DSM Somos , or somOS::server.
