Information SYSTEMS MAJOR IN THE DBA PROGRAM

The DBA program with the IST major is designed to provide an academically rigorous experience to a diverse population of traditional and non-traditional students. The lock step structure allows for timely completion of the degree, whether you attend on a part-time or full-time basis. Preparatory Requirements

IS applicants are expected to have completed an MBA or a Master's degree in Information Systems or in a closely related field from a program accredited by AACSB international. Students who lack sufficient IS background should take courses from the preparatory sequence below. The exact sequence will be determined by an advisor at the time the application is processed.

• Business Preparatory Requirements:(15 credit hours)

• IS Preparatory Requirements: (16 credit hours)

IST 602 Advanced programming of Business Systems (4 credit hours)

Preparatory courses can be waived based on the individual applicant's background.

Major Field

A student is required to complete 20 semester hours of required coursework in the major field. In addition, a student will be required to complete a minimum of 9 semester hours towards electives in consultation with the student's advisor to meet a support field requirement. It is expected that these electives will contribute towards the student's research agenda. The student will be required to complete a doctoral dissertation that carries a variable number of credit hours. The student may register for research seminar with a minimum of 6-8 credit hours (explained below) or may register for the doctoral dissertation which has a minmum of 18 credit hours.

  These courses msut be choosen in consultation with the student's advisor and may include appropriate Masters and Doctoral course from related fields. Suggested courses in the Information Systems area include the following:

• Research credit requirements
  
  6-8 hours of research seminar. Student may register for research seminar credits beginning their 2nd year but before dissertation proposal defense. These research credits can be completed by taking the following courses: IST891, IST895, or IST896. Please consult an advisor for more details.
  


• IST 899 Doctoral Dissertation (variable credits)
  
  A minimum requirement of 18 hours.
